MILF accepts Bangsamoro Organic Law

Chairman Alhaj Murad Ebrahim of the MILF received yesterday (Aug 6) from Pres. Rodrigo Duterte the signed copy of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) during the presentation ceremony at the Rizal Hall of Malacañan Palace.

In what was a concrete sign of the MILF’s acceptance of the BOL, or Republic Act No. 11054, almost all the members of the MILF Central Committee accompanied Chairman Ebrahim in the short yet historic gathering that was attended also by senators, congressmen, Cabinet officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and politicians from Mindanao.

Duterte and Ebrahim shook hands for several seconds after the framed copy of the BOL was officially handed over and accepted.

BTC Chairman Ghazali Jaafar joined Senate Pres. Vicente Sotto III, House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, OPAPP Sec. Jesus Dureza, Senate Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri and House of Representatives Majority Floor Leader Rolando Andaya, Jr. as principal witnesses to the presentation rites.

Duterte wished that the BOL could serve as the “final trajectory” for the attainment of genuine peace, stability and good governance in Muslim Mindanao. He also urged everyone to welcome the dawning of a “brighter future” not only for the Bangsamoro but for all peace-loving Filipinos.

Duterte signed the BOL on July 27, few days after his State of the Nation Address where it was planned to be signed. Duterte promised to ink the law 48 hours after he would have received the ratified version, which he eventually did.

On July 29, the MILF gathered almost 105,000 participants to its Bangsamoro Consultative Assembly in Camp Darapanan to consult its military commanders, political committee officials, and all supportive sectors.

Last August 4, Chairman Ebrahim public announced during a forum in Cotabato City that the MILF has officially accepted the Bangsamoro Organic Law.
